"Local host" is a whole new category of tourism guide. It's not a level-one field guide, or any of the other South African Tourism Board categories of guiding. This is a whole new guide. It's a pioneer work that we've done.

We need to do another two pilot projects to absolutely hone the course content, and the whole course for applicability, and then replicate it as fast as possible throughout South Africa – because eSizameleni [a small township alongside Wakkerstroom] and Wakkerstroom and this tourism is merely a microcosm. The problems that face youngsters like Norman or anybody are similar all over South Africa, in hundreds of other little townships or places where people have mainstream tourism activities going on, from which the feel bitterly excluded.
