Themba Thusi (above) leads a tour group from Durban. He is one of three black guides from a local township who participated in a guide training program. Seen as radical by some Wakkerstroom residents, the initiative evolved out of Kotze's belief that tourism will only succeed in the region if black residents are included as equal participants. She hopes the program will help bridge the deep racial chasm in South Africa that has excluded blacks.
