  The Shalish
Komal Sarkar Komal Sarkar (age 18) asked for a salish when she couldn't find any other way to stop Mri Nal, her husband (right), from constantly beating her and demanding money. The salish decided to warn Nal and his brothers – who participated in the beatings of Sarkar – that if any such violence is ever repeated, her request for separation must be respected, and part of their land must then be given to Sarkar as compensation.
