While addressing environmental problems in his village, Singh also discovered the need for an alternative school that would offer more flexible hours for working families, and a curriculum that emphasizes self- development and community awareness as much as academic achievement. Thus, he established this school next to his house in the heart of his village. At first, only children from GVNML employees attended the school. Now, these students are the minority, as most villagers feel the alternative school offers more than the government-sponsored school.
