Crops now grow on land in and around Laporiya that was barren and desertified, thanks to improved water management. To augment this recovery, village residents are integrating new agricultural techniques by using new seed varieties and mixed farming strategies. Livestock are an important consideration in this management strategy. In the past, villagers travelled far outside the village to find grazing land for their cattle. To address this problem, Singh has incorporated efforts to regenerate denuded pasturelands into his project. He has supplemented water conservation systems with strict measures to protect the meager land cover and to induce communities to "regreen" the land.
