Singh has targeted education as a key healthy village development. He began be creating a school in his village that offers non-formal education so that all the village children can study there. The school uses GVMNL volunteers as teachers, and is funded completely from village donations.
The school teaches both self-development skills and social behavior, including ways the students can help with village development and management. Singh is planning to introduce short courses and attractive course materials for the students on managing village economies by balancing the village ecology. Once this proves successful, the next step will be to adapt the model in the more than 50 other non-formal schools run GVNML.
Laxman Singh (from audio clip): "Initially, there were only ten children they were the children of the people who were working for the organization and the government schools were not running very properly because the teachers did not used to come on time.
"When the people of the village started seeing the school, they started feeling that the standard of studies in this school is much better than the government schools."
