Innovation - idea: Training of local farmers on bee keeping in a small scale, introduction of dairy cow sharing programme, started a tree nursery within the area for reforestation and agro- forest within the location.
Innovation - why it is pioneering: The history of this entire project came after the patron who is a local resident; Mr Weldon Korir got an inspiration after attending a seminar on sustainable development Programme offer by Tilburg University of Netherlands in conjunction with Tilburg Business School and Sustainable Challenge Foundation of Netherlands. He took the next step which most of people in developing countries do not do
Strategy - how it achieves impact: The main vision is to eradicate poverty among the local peasant farmers by the year 2010. Nelbem projects use the available resources in which every person can be independent and exercise his or her ability to improve standard of living by understanding the concept of sustainable development hence value the right to life of dignity and to the respect of human life. Nelbem offer excellent services to peasant farmers mostly focus on charity-based, especially our services to the poor most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our society like victims of tribal clashes, less privileged and disadvantaged children, youths (on behavioural change), widows, and the elderly. with my special focus on sustainable development for small scale farmers, which means all the social institution within the rural setting can be converted to become a sources of economics viable projects for economics sustainability by the local people. With my special focus on sustainable development for small scale farm
Strategy - growth plans: The strategy is to start by training people who can came back and offer the same training to the local people at a Less cost and the cotent should be internalised by the local farmers especially when the training is being offered by a fellow local farmer, The sharing of a Cow system will bring people to be together and bring unity in the process of helping each other and eradicating poverty.
Right now we are going on with few activities which the availability of fund s have enable to do such a training of local farmers on bee keeping in a small scale, we have started building a small office for administrative matters, started a tree nursery within the area for reforestation and agro-forest within the location.
Impact to date: The project since it was started 3 years ago has inpsired many other Location and currrently we are getting visitors who want to came and learn the concept and how it was introduce to the farmers, the most successful so far is the Bee Keeping, The school Programmme and the tree Nusary.
Future impact: Based on the result and the energy people have development to improve their living stanadrd using the local available resource, We are projecting that 10 years from now, the living standard of the local people will have improve and the concept of Sustaibanle development will have been bought people the members of the Location. ( For details visit www.nelbem.org
Sustainability - resource base: For sustainablity Purpose we have made the members to own the whole idea by suggesting areas in which the find development and where they find it important in relation to their Lives, we have had also a Bees abraod of UK who has sponsor 20 members of our group to attend an Bee keeping course in a local Agriculural College, the result has been encouraging since the trained members came back and train others, Most of the work done by members for the group are on volunteer basisi and hence the aim of making it sustainable is the membership is based on the work contributed by members and any benefit will be given first to ahrd working members of the group.
Major challenge for the field: Shortcoming of the Projects: There are few shortcomings or problems the projects under this centre are facing and this can be list as below:
Lack of Funds:
The projects have support of the locals who are also poor and hence can not contribute much in terms of funds, hence NELBEM is sourcing for funds from well wisher to contribute anything which can bring this projects to suceess.
