Hello Again!
This is the second NYC Fight Human Trafficking Newsletter for the New York City Fight Human Trafficking Group (NYC FHTG), and is being published in celebration of our first, and very successful, NYC FHTG meeting that took place on April 21st, our invitation to publish our newsletter on TWO websites, one in America and one in Kosovo, and in celebration of the huge increase in membership in only one month! At the meeting I was amazed at our almost innate ability to communicate with one another, to laugh together, and to create, within a few hours, a mission, monthly outreach goals, and plans for a new website and a new brochure that will accompany this larger information packet. People left just gushing with energy, and the spirit has not dissipated in the slightest as we move towards creating more concrete projects in the future. Absolutely brilliant!
In order to brief those who were not able to make it to this last meeting, and to alert new community members to our process and progress, I have added a "members" page and a "minutes" page to our newsletter. The minutes will cover the most critical dialogues that took place within the group, and will outline the goals and strategies that we envision following in the future. Finally, a brilliant idea was proposed by our honorary member from Polaris Project DC: we are including in this newsletter a wishlist, or a list of materials, projects, and people that/who would be helpful for the promotion and execution of our outreach and education days. If you can help with this list, or would like more information about the goals of the FHTG, please email me at nycountertrafficking@gmail.com.
Along with the dissemination of this newsletter, our proactive and incredible team will be pasting New York with flyers, invitations and brochures about the NYC FHTG and our next meeting, which will take place on Thursday May 19th. We are also having a creative night on Thursday May 5th to discuss the layout and graphics of the new brochure. If you or anyone you know is interested in working on nonprofit graphic design, or would enjoy helping with outreach materials, just sign up for the meetings at http://trafficking.meetup.com/4/. We welcome everybody to our diverse mix here, and are so lucky to have started out already with people from all different backgrounds and levels of experience with counter-trafficking.
(A quick note: on the second-to-last page there is an audio file on trafficking from the State of Nevada radio, entitled The Department of Justice. This is an incredibly interesting audio piece and I suggest that anyone who can listen to this check it out.)
All my best to you, and, as always I hope that you will join us in any way that you can.
