Rights Awareness - Special Focus on Women Gathering to raise Women's Voice

4) Positioning in the mosaic of solutions:

  •      Main principle addressed: Build non-violent paths to rights, access & assets

    5) Description of initiative: Rights awareness for men and women regarding human rights, elimination of violence, women rights from Islamic point of view, conflict resolution, MDG millennium development goals, peace building , election process , election observation, leadership learning to women. We are in contact with people and raising awareness it has positive impact on peace process. Conflict and kinds of conflict and different methods and ways to resolution of conflicts (such as Barriers of communication).

    6) Description of innovation: Contact with people and involving them in the process, we hired the project person from the target area, consulting with the department of women affairs and NSP (national solidarity program).

    7) Delivery model: Through implementing the project and doing problems analysis and objective analysis.

    8) Key operational partnerships: Ms. Roshan Sirran director of THRA ) established the following partnerships: o Civil society and human rights network (rights awareness) o Afghan Civil society organizations networks for peace (working regarding the peace building) o Free and fair election for Afghanistan (working in the field of observation on election) o Afghan women’s independence advocacy commission (focus on advocacy) o THRA had contribution in the writing of human rights handbook , this book has 280 pages. o The donor of this project is Canada embassy and THRA had implemented more projects before this. social forums (students , teachers , women and men of the area and mullahs and NSP forum also the members of the civil society. They get the awareness in the field we are working and replicate it to others through companies. o We include the partnerships in the action plan after making proposal.

    9) Financial model: We evaluate our projects and we use double entry system and we audit our projects. Our organization is training service so we are using double entry system and our organization is non profit organization.

              • Costs as percentage of income: N/A

              • Financing: According to the project we organized our budget and by using the journal, cash , larger and double entry system. Our organization is based on the project budget also as volunteer, fund raising. Beneficiaries are not contributing to the expenses of the program. The sources of funding are donors, this project is Canada embassy and other projects are funded by French embassy , developing service center of Germany (ded), England embassy, GTZ, Novib, leadership development human rights council(LDHRC). Our finance department is working on it and according to the need of projects it will be plan, capacity building of the project personal will caused the financial sustainability of our initiative in the long term.

    10) Effectiveness

              • Project outcomes: o Women participation above the 42% in the national furme (parliament) also women candidate their selves in the election of Parliament.30% afghan women successfully won the parliament election. Also the violence decreased in the society and family level, girls get their education rights. Although some women got their work rights (16 girls continued their education rights and 2 women got their occupation rights the targeted village of the project.)

              • Number of clients in past year: Directly 360 women and indirectly 2500 women and men benefited form this porgram.

    11) Scaling up strategy

              • Stage of the initiative: Scaling Up stage.

              • Expansion plan: 1- Rights awareness raising of teaches and students male and female 2- Work on the violence elimination 3- To reduce the wrong culture of violence 4- Working of awareness of MDGs 5- Work on the equality of women rights (social justices) 6- Training of Master trainers and trainers in the field of human rights handbook in the western, north and east zone of Afghanistan by the cooperation of Civil society and human rights network.

    12) Origin of the initiative: One women from the city married to the village (that village THRA is working) her in-laws didn’t let her to go out from home and work , but when her in-laws and herself took the human rights and peace building workshops their minds change and now she the permeation to come out from home , now she is working with us as English teacher. We have worked in this field since 1997, from 2003 we had the same project in this field so according to the survey it was needed to start this project. The idea started during the Taliban regime and we felt the need to work on our idea which was working in the human rights and peace building because men and especially women were not aware of their rights.
