Exploring Solutions Journalism
This month we take a brief departure from
our regular format to feature the photographs of Janet Jarman. She adds an essay exploring what it means to pursue "solutions journalism," and she shares her personal goals as a
photojournalist. Jarman's photographs document how Dr. Vera Cordeiro, and the
Saúde Criança Renascer Association, give hope to those who may find themselves in truly
miserable circumstances in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
A Preview of Changemakers Studio
In February, we will launch a new Studio section that features
multi-media presentations with images, text, and sound. The Studio section will
showcase social innovators working on a wide range of issues, throughout the
world. In this edition of Changemakers Journal, we give you a preview of how the
Studio section will use rapidly evolving Internet technologies to
bring sounds and images to your computer. You can enjoy the audio files with the
free RealPlayer G2 player.
In February's Studio, look for a powerful photo essay by Janet Jarman on Dora Andrade and
EDISCA a cultural organization that provides opportunities for artistic expression and
growth for girls who live in the marginal neighborhoods of Fortaleza, Brazil.
