Renaissance of Integrity: Our Slogan in Building a More Ethical Society

Country: Nigeria

Idea: Integrity needs to be "reintroduced and reinforced" in all corners of the society, from families to bussiness to school and to professions. It is the compass to guide the young poeple in charting the course of our daily lives.Integrity is encompassed in ethical, moral, and right conduct. This revival of integrity can be achieved through various measures which include: 1.Through Education-in homes, schools, through religion, and on one`s own.Learninig about other people and studing history are also important elements of the education. 2.By discussing with others intrested in improving their moral standards or ethical decission making skills. 3.By following the examples of others with high standards. 4.By keeping spiritual guidlines, fidelity

How do you do it: The home is the prime place for the development of high standards of conduct.Parents should own up thier social responsibility to their offsprings and help inculcate moral values to them early in live.Religious organisations are to engage in teachings that are directed towards improvement of moral and ethical standarads. In schools, programs that centers on development of moral character should be introduced. There should be the introduction of ethical curriculum designed to help young people develop ability to live responsibly in a complex society.Courses on moral reasoning and ethical issues should be introduced and oratical contests frequently organisaed.Business and professional organisations should have their code of conduct enforced.

Innovation: Quality upbringing of children require both the contributions of parents, schools, churches and peer groups; hence ,the need to revatalize the activities/functions of these social groups.Parents are adviced to stop leaving their children at tender age to cater, correct, and fend for themselves. The introduction of moral/value/ethics programs in our school curriculum is a right move towards improvement of conduct.Professional bodies by appointing full time ethics officers, creation of avenues for disscussion of hypothetical or acute cases of questionable conduts, introduction of ethics training programs and hot lines that allows members to report unethical behaviour will ensure that the conducts of members are in accordance with their etiquette.

Impact: This present condition can only change if we individually determine to change.Conducts will generally improve if every parent play their vital roles as this ensures proper upbringing of the children.Discussing the improvement of moral values revatalises the tendency to act right by every individual.Learnig about poeple and studing history allows the young to correct the mistake of others and strive to live in accordance with the etiquette of the society. The various introductions if made as in above will put an end to the pontification of crime by promoting moral conducts and blaming unethical behaviours. This encourages the youth and adult to engage in interpersonally witnessable acts,of kinds relevant to supporting human morality.

Ethical Action: Anthony Browder streesd it that "a child`s behaviour reflects his/her uperinging.Self-respect is a trait which must be initiated and be enforced at home" This is apparent as children raised under the guidiance and control of responsible parents more often posses high moral values than their opposites. This shows that redirection of parents to their childs upbringing is of great immportance. As actions speaks louder than voice, engagging in interpersonally witnessable acts that shows moral courage more easily inculcates discipline into the young minds.See then the need for the adults to show good examples to the young poeple.A child that sees another being punished or praised, for wrong doing or good conduct usually acts to attract praise.

Replication: The first step towards the replication of these motives has to do with the individual. As an individual,I have to begin by making a choice to act just and right,to set good examples for others to emmulate, and to encourage others to act morally.Every other person can do same, both the young and the adult.Praising moral conduct and blaming unethical behaviours is to be adopted as the tool to reinforceing morality in others as well as onself.Schools authorities are to follow the examples of those who introduce programs that centers on the development of positive character.Poeple with high standards are to engage the others in discussions corncernig improving moral standards;engagementin moral obligations to promote personal and social decipline

Sustainability: To be able to sustain the revival of integrity is to be true to oneself. There is need not to act too quickly or too emotionally and to share same value as most people. One has to strive hard to have the desire/motivation to overcome his/her self-intrest. Moreso one has to consider;laws,codes,consequenses,golden-rule,public intrest, generally accepted standards, values, role model, inner feeling, and religion before taking any action. One should also bear in mind that the final end of moral discipline is the reform, and not the suppression,of desire. So there is need to decipline man`s nature(of intellect, will, and of emotions)The love of goodness and of one`s fellows are the true motives for right conduct;self- reliance and co-operation helps it
