Organization: Action for Behavioural change Uganda

Idea: My idea is to set up an award based on ethics. Here an ethic role model in history will be identified and an award will be attached to his/her name and given annually. The award will be at different levels starting from Primary school, secondary school and tertiary institutions. We will also have an award for business and, government and organisations that are not for profit. It will be like a night of awards. Here a person reacieves the award and at the function and gives a brief description of his/her contributions to building a more ethical society. The people will first be voted for through the media and nominees will be voted by the public through phone short messages and the winners will be given awards.

How do you do it: The first step will be a literature search and consultation with people to find out those Ugandans who have really promoted ethical behaviour in the history of Uganda.

Discussions will first be done in the media on the candidates before people will be asked to elect the best name. Names will be printed in the press for the public to vote who they think was the best. We shall then put an award to his name and promote ethics using his example. We will then use the media to ask people to nominate individuals, and organisations that they think have been showing ethical behavior in the past year.

Five nominees from each category will be voted for by phone short messages. A night of awards willl be organised and they will be awarded.

Innovation: Its an innovation because it has not been done before. Promoting ethics can only be done if you address the person's inner being and the only way thei can happen if you are not going to use cruel measures (like death penalty, cutting off hands eg in arab countries)is just for people to have live examples whcih appeal to their hearts.

We intend to do this and this in Ugand is a real innovation.

Impact: The activity will involve smaller awards right from the level of primary schools and secondary schools to Univerisities. Here systemic change will be created in that the public eye will be opened to best practice organisations and individuals. Many organisation will try their level best to get some of those awards and on the individual level it will be mostly politicians who we know will be in this category, so it will appeal to them to create better public impressions. Change will occur because the public will wish to go with people and institutions that have been recognised as ethical. The best in people will be recognised and rewarded and every body will wish his best to be recognised.

Ethical Action: When organisation A nad B are nominated both will feel happy, they will work hard to polish the edges so that the public will vote them for the award. If A takes it, B will feel disappointed but will work harder next year to polish the bad side. This pplies to individuals also righ from the school level. Many organisations will promote the issue of suggeston boxes just to improve their image. Every body will work hard and all these actions will promote positive change.

Replication: Every country will have to get its ethical role model in their country history and divelop and award based on him. Replication will be simple because the process follows that followed by many other awards.

Sustainability: Many organisations will come up tp sponsor such an award. its an award that appeals to civil society, government will embrace it fully and still the awards will be in a dinner form where people will have to pay for the dinner ticket.

Many organisations will come up to sponsor this award because fore most it appeals to social responsibility.
