childtrafficking.com

May 11, 2005

Dear Wenchi Greetings from Kathmandu. Our website is a digital library, owned by at least two different organisation and co-owned by a board of editors. Most of the contributions come frome activists in the field, but also researchers. We try to read or understand each report posted on the website. Reports from reputable researchers, ativists and organisations like IOM, ILO or similar ones are posted without hesitation. Others are carefully read. We are claiming that all reports are a result of hard research. Please, understand, that this applies to different levels: Local people in the field carry out hard research but do not have resources like UNICEF or others. Therefore we especially encourage field staff to submit their findings, although they do not always compete with scientific research work. But we feel that as any library we would like to give them a platform to present their honest views & findings. We are especially interested in child trafficking of course, but we are also trying to promote reports of the nexus of modern forms of slavery and trafficking. This was the rason why we spent almost 6 month hard work on developing the structure which is quite unique: all forms of slavery destinations are mentioned in order to provide the complex picture of trafficking. We are updating the website at least 12 times a year but even more often. Presently visitors download in average 20 Mbyte per day documentation, which is a proof that the library is widely used. The website is run by volunteers and no payment is made except for the technical aspect. I hope friends and colleagues continue to submit more papers since it is so important to better understand the smodern slavery system in order to develop impact-oriented projects. Best regards Reinhard

Reinhard Fichtl, Country Director, Swiss Foundation of Terre des hommes in Nepal
