Hi Wenchi and the Changemaker Community, Cents of Relief is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that endeavors to help the AIDS infected victims in the red-light areas of India by gathering sufficient funds to be used for providing an education for the children of women in prostitution, implementing preventive measures against the disease and trafficking of adolescent girls, and giving women in prostitution and their children access to the basic necessities of life. My friend Rina and I co-founded the organization almost two years ago as college undergraduates. We have been fortunate as volunteers from other colleges have founded Cents of Relief chapters increasing awareness about human trafficking and helping with fundraising efforts in their communities
This software is being targeted at all populations at-risk of human trafficking. Many people in rural areas do not have computers and this is one gap in the capacity of our program. Cents of Relief hopes that through our fundraising efforts we will be able to provide computers to those NGOs that are lacking computers. Yet, more and more NGOs with access to computers are reaching out to these rural areas, especially in villages where trafficking remains high (e.g., Nepal-India border).
Since many of the potential victims do have a formal education, the software will be developed using graphic-based information. It will be a graphical user interface integrating voice (in the specific language of the area) to ensure that even illiterate individuals can reap the benefits of our program.
