In further response to Wenchi's comments, may I advise stakeholders, especailly local NGOs, that, in persuading their governments, they should be specific and measurable and compelling in their strategies. For instance, the Nigerian government has been implementing preventive as well as curative strategies to stem and ultimately eliminate human trafficking. The establishment of various Poverty Alleviation Programmes, encouragement of enrolment into primary schools, improvement in health care delivery are some of the preventive activities which NGOs should study and see where they could collaborate.
Government has also empowered law enforcement agencies to arrest and prosecute, while shelters are being built for the rehabilitation of rescued victims who undergo vocational trainings before they are re-united with their families. These are some areas where NGOs should explore.
Thanks.
