Re: Developing Media Capacity to Eliminate Human Trafficking

April 29, 2005

Dear Buki,

Yes, the media plays a vital role in all societies and all issues. There are many aspects for the media to intervene in this egregious violation of human rights. I think New York Times Nick Kristof's articles on trafficking in Cambodia certainly raised a lot of attention in the US.

In your opinion, what should be included in the training curriculum for journalists, in addition to the issue? Should we sensitize the reports?

Perhaps as a journalist, you could also provide some tipping points for those who advocate for victims to appeal for more media attention. How should we approach the media to get their attention to human trafficking?
