Re: Virtual Job Database

April 26, 2005

Dear Ona,

I agree that there needs brokerage between employers and employees who are potential trafficking victims. I have a few quetsions about your "virtual job database."

One of the challenges of regulating migrant labor is "brokerage." Many young people attempt to find employment overseas on the Internet but fall victim to human trafficking. Therefore, countries sending a large number of migrant labor usually have a government office responsible for related matters.

What do you think about the government's role in brokering oversea employment for its citizens? How about having NGOs like yours to be the employment broker and provide trafficking information? Or, perhaps NGOs could work with the government together to do this job? Are the jobs in your databse international or local?
