Country: Nigeria
Organization: Ihsan International
Innovation: It is a practical approach to solving the problem especially in my part of the world where countless seminars and workshop sessions on the issue at stake has failed to yield any positive fruit since they are held by the elites far removed from the people that have always been the victims of human trafficking. The pepetrators of human traffickers play on the socio-economic vulnerability of the poor and mainly illiterate or semi-litterate villagers or sub-urban dwellers to drive home their campaign of a life of plenty abroad only to subject the people to perpetual sexual and financial exploitation. The campaign, in local languages in the most affected towns/villages/hamlets would ensure that the people take informed decisions on the issue.
Impact: It would create systemic change in the long run because it is designed to appeal to attitudinal changes as they are encouraged to ignore the sweet promises of the cartel that operate this business and concentrate on making the best out of their situation in their countries of abode. It would appeal to the kids in their schools and their religious or community groups. The system would position each member of the community as a vanguard to safeguarding the future of the women and children while advising them agains trying the risk of being trafficked that may result in sexual exploitation with posible contracting of HIV/AIDS
Tipping Point: The idea that we are proposing is to draw on the fact that many families know each other within every community and could turn out to be each others wacthdogs in this campaign to rid the world of the problems associated with human trafficking of children and women. It les the people know that life at the other end may not be bed of roses afterall and that mannaer is not just waitng to fall on them upon successfully getting accross the divide. It would be taken to the community gatherings, churches, mosques etc where the services of their leaders may be sought for sustainability
Replication: Not replicated as at now as we are a small organization concentrating on local areas in Nigeria in Nigeria"s most affected areas for now
Sustainability: It is self-sustainable as a people oriented approach where they would carry the campagn on ones they are convinced of its necesity.
