Let's Jam Human Trafficking

Country: United States

Organization: Individual

Innovation: Unlike other public campaigns efforts, this strategy will utilize the influence of hip/hop artists to create songs that are written specifically to target human trafficking. Consider the song "We are the World" and it's lasting impression. This strategy would recruit hip hop and other popular artists to create songs and videos in their genre that are specific to the cause to end human trafficking. The non-profit agency would get 15% of every record sell and this would generate revenue for the particular organization.

Impact: Not only will potential victims and abusers hear and see the message, the general pubic would be more aware of the problem. The desireed outcome is that more people of influence will get actively involved in the cause whether through philanthropy, creating organzations, or speaking out. The purpose is to get those who have the most potential to influence human trafficking laws and policies as well as public awareness get motivated through song to do something about it. Once they jump on board their fans will follow. For example, if Oprah was inspired by such a song, she would then air a show on the subject, and a chain reaction would start.

Tipping Point: Right now human traficking is not a topic that the general public has knowledge exists, through contemporary songs, communities will become mobilized to create change. The gap is that I do not know how to contact any hip hop artists, but maybe someone who reads this will. So the main obstacle would be to get artists who are very busy, involved.

Replication: Replication will be enabled. The model is that the organization will form relationships with artists and establish an agreement for a percentage of sales for each song that relates to human trafficking be donated to the agency. The agency would recruit survivors to write lyrics and volunteer in recruiting of artists. Funds would be used not only to operate the agency but also to provide for the basic needs of newly found survivors.

Sustainability: The agency would get a minimum of 15% of each dollar of sales including record sales, concert sales, and any other profits.

Position in the Human Trafficking Mosaic of Solutions:
Factor: Corruption and Inadequate Government Policy
Principle: Ensuring Law for All
