Country: Germany
Organization: KARO e.V., transnational social work in prostitutions - and drug-scenes
Innovation: Forced prostitution, women's and children's trafficking and their commercial, sexual exploitation in the Czech- German border regions shall be fought by building middle- and eastern-Europe networks as well as prevention- and awareness-methods. The public needs to be alerted. We contact the victims in street-work areas and brothels, and we seek the cooperation of own and foreign prosecution officials, NGOs and public organizations. This is specially meant to support the victim's trust, to improve their situation, and in order to develop new offers for help. Models for quality assurance serve in order to gain efficient accomplishment of the project.
Impact: Building alertness of the problem. Only few are aware of the problem of forced prostitution. We aim at the support of moral courage of the involved occupational groups and the European society. - Building a cooperation of local implements (NGOs) and officials to jointly fight minor s prostitution. - Development and accomplishment of prevention measures on international and national levels (information presentation in schools, youth events, street- work in the areas and brothels) reconnoitring children, teenagers and grown-ups in danger. - Initiation of peer- education - Initiation of a women s and children s refuge to protect and rehabilitate the victims - Cutback of social and medical problems in the Czech-German border areas.
Tipping Point: The co-operation in line with the present project will develop net-work and establish new strategies. Geographically distant NGOs, institutions, organizations and facilities, who work in the same field of action are being contacted to hand out materials, to keep information- and experience-exchange. Also it will be a great support for the Czech integration into the European Union. The following elements stand against fight and prevention of forced prostitution: Shortfalls of criminal prosecution, the organized, criminal structures, which stand behind the prostitutes exploitations, the society s discrimination of the prostitutes; the risks for the NGO-staff members, lack of financial and workforce setting.
Replication: - Exemplary cross-border and interdisciplinary occupation to fight against forced prostitution, women s and children s trafficking, violence and sexual exploitation of children. - Transfer of the gained experiences to other regions in the EU, i.e. to the new member states, who have to deal with similar problems. - Exchange of experiences, research and best practice.
Sustainability: A subject and cross-departmental local network of involved officials shall be developed. In co-operation with officials/police and victims the amount of complaints of offences shall be increased and the offenders persecutions needs to be secured. The problems of trafficking, forced prostitution and commercial sexual exploitation of children and basic research studies must make it possible to explain, show translucence and to lay things open. We will fight with improved, preventive offers for help and a better advice structure. The association is supported by its members, political decision-makers and private individuals. With the help of European and local support programme as well as charitable donations the project is maintained.
