Organization: Madre Coraje
Innovation: We want to focus on the idea that if you take children out of the streets, traffickers will not have anyone for trafficking. We certainly believe that by creating welcome centers which pick up children from the streets and give them an education and formation for their future, we are preventing these children of being a prey for traffickers. Madre Coraje already works with a welcome center for abandoned children in Peru which is now the home of more than 600 children.Nevertheless, we want to step forward and here is where the innovation of the project lies; Our idea is to make companies finance programmes of welcome centers for children through the concept of Corporate Social responsability (CSR).
Impact: Welcome centers for abandoned children has a pretty straightforward systemic impact since is creating a generational change. At local level, children who were left alone in the streets bound to be caught by traffickers have now, with these centers, a place to live and to grow in a more caring environment. They also receive education and support. At global level, companies that hold social responsabilities can contribute to give a future for these children and also to the awareness of their stakeholders. At the same time, the gap between first and third world is being reduced,as it is human trafficking.
Tipping Point: We believe that to reach a tipping point the collaboration of the companies is essential. As an NGO, Madre Coraje can provide many resources to make these welcome centers work, but we need the support of the business world to strengthen our help. Businness awareness about the dynamics of human trafficking alongside the development of Corporate Social Responsabilities programmes by Governments will be essential to reach a tipping point in which everyone; NGOıs, companies, stakeholders, Governments and consumers will take their responsability to improve the current situation.
Replication: Our activity is very easy to be replicated. We believe that the success of the idea lies on the replication precisely. The main point is to encourage companies to collaborate with these projects of welcome centers for children. We hope that business awareness rises as the concept of Corporate Social Responsability evolves. Every NGO which has the support of a company willing to finance these project can easily replicate this idea.
Sustainability: The sustainability of the project lies on the Corporate Social Responsability (CSR), this concept is being introduced by many companies in their policies nowadays. Companies now their image is key factor if they want their costumers to trust on them and by taking part in humanitarian projects they are getting a good image to their costumers. Also, we want companies to be really implicated in these projects, giving them the opportunity to create mini-industries or mini-collaborating centers out of the welcome centers, contributing to the formation of the children whose they can incorporate to their companies in the long-term, always respecting children and human rights and international law.
