Child & Shared Card Project
Country: Thailand
Organization: Foundation for Child Development
3) Strategy Summary:
At the present time, communication through internet is
rapid and more accessible. It becomes another channel for
information dissemination. Internet users often send e-
cards to their groups in various important occasions due
to its interesting and mobilized pictures. If the campaign
on children problems and resource mobilization are done
through e-cards in, it can draw little by little the
interest of the public automatically. The result is that
the receivers of the e-cards will forward them again and
again, so they can reach more and more people. The e-
cards identified the source of its website, so the
receivers of the cards may interest to choose other e-
cards and revisit that website. The general public will
visit and learn more about the activities of the
Foundation. This will mobilize more resources for the
Foundation in kind, in cash and volunteerism.
The e-cards are printed in various patterns which are
designed by participants of the Child & Shared Card
Project for different target groups. Various designed
cards can be produced in the forms of card books, post
cards and card boxes/cases to be used for awareness
raising on children problems and encourage them to
contribute to support and take care of children in their
own community and in society. In addition the producers
who participate in the project form the beginning will
encourage their friends and this can also be extended to
general internet users. Importantly, the concept on
prevention and protection of children problems will be
disseminated to government agencies at provincial levels
and community level, to NGOs as well as general publics
and can generate the understanding and awareness on
children problems and solicit cooperation in resource
mobilization to assist more children.
The strategies of the Project are as follows:
- To generate participation of people in the society to
support and take care of children by using the cards as a
media and symbol to distribute the information on child
care and assistance.
- To create volunteerism and networking. There are
different groups of participants who help produce cards
and the receivers of the cards also vary both adults and
children such as children with juvenile delinquencies,
abused children and children of home school, working
children, children in slum areas, unidentified nationality
children and schoolchildren in the provinces. As for the
adults, they are employees with high potential to assist
children. The receivers of the cards vary from youth to
middle-age persons who can understand the concept and
assist children in households, schools, communities and in
society.
- To tap the mass media to distribute the information on
the project to promote the participation of various groups
in society, for example through radio programmes,
newspapers, websites, magazines as well as by
participating in different fairs, organising activities
directly with the target groups and promoting those
activities conducted.
4) How the Strategy Works:
Procedures of the Project:
1. Generating participation and producing cards.
The target participants both children and adults to draw
the cards should be identified, and then grouping the
target participants according to festivals or issues.
During the period of the year, there are the following
events:
1.1 December to February period: Thinking of you
Cards
During that period, we celebrate Father s Day, New Year
Day, Children s Day and Valentine Day. Cards will be
prepared with the target groups such as employees,
schoolchildren form different provinces, children with
juvenile delinquency and prisoners. A produced card can be
sent to family or underprivileged children. The Foundation
will collect all those cards and send them to various
groups for example, orphans and non-nationality children.
There will be also chain card of which the participants
drew and address to special people with the details on the
card as follows: draw a card and forward to someone for
appreciation . The Foundation will send all those cards.
The receivers will be the new target groups who will send
their own cards to respond to the senders or to the
Foundation to express their thinking and forward those
cards to underprivileged children in society to give them
encouragement and support.
1.2 March to April period : Sorry and Relation
Building Cards
During this period, we celebrate Family Day. The target
participants are employees, teachers, school children,
abandoned children and old-aged people in institution who
will express their feeling, apologize or send warm
messages to strengthen family relationship.
1.3 May to June period: Appreciation Cards
During this period we celebrate Labour Day and Environment
Day. The cards will be produced by employees, home school
children, and children from various schools to express
their appreciation to friends and important people such as
garbage collectors, street cleaners, shit collectors,
toilet cleaners as well as domestic workers and working
children both Thai and foreign, who have to earn to
support their family
1.4 July to August period : Care of You Cards
During this period we have important religious Buddhist
day and Mother Day. Target participants to produce the
cards are employees, nurses, patients in hospitals and
children in various provinces. The cards will be sent to
mothers of participants and send those warm messages to
orphans and abandoned children in the society.
1.5 September to November period: Cheer-Up Cards
The children enjoys this school holidays period and
celebrate Children s Rights Day. The cards will be created
by employees, children roamed about at department stores
or at Center Point, children in slum areas. Those children
don t have many interesting activities to do during their
holidays. They tend to be interested in or imitate
improper media because their parents go to work. The cards
will be sent to the Governor of each province and the
child policy makers.
In each activity with the direct target groups,
the Foundation will apply also rehabilitation process. For
example, the children from the prisons often suffered from
family violence and they have developed negative feeling
towards their family. It is necessary to make them express
their feeling and organize the activities that help them
understand and accept in order to adapt themselves and
develop good attitude in the future. In addition, the
cards created by children and adults will be shared the
groups how the drawing reflect the problems in society.
The psychologists will analyze and the information will be
collected for some research. The Foundation will collect
the name list of the card makers and card receivers and
send them information on situation of children, assistance
and participation in child care.
2. Different designed card production and distribution
After receiving cards from the participants of each
activity, the Foundation will select some beautiful cards
or with interesting design in order to make e-cards for
the Foundation website visitors. Not only for the
information update but the cards can also be forwarded to
others to create more volunteers and network on child
support which included adults who are working in various
companies who have resource and potential to help
children. The policy makers as well as the youth and
middle-age card receivers can absorb the concept on child
care and protection in their own homes, schools,
communities and society.
Besides e-cards, the design of the cards can be printed in
forms of postcards, card books, cards for campaign. For
example, leaf cards promoting Return play space to
children simply and at the same time can use for
awareness raising on nature conservation with both adults
and children.
The cheap card books for campaign on children can be sold
in bookstores or saving boxes cards can help promote
saving habits and participation of family in sharing
happiness deposited in the saving boxes with other
underprivileged children.
The approach of Child & Shared Card Project using
cards as a media for awareness raising and participation
of society to take care of children can be applied easily.
It is an easy way because the technology have more role
in our daily life and there are more and more millions
users. Therefore, rapid information sending can access
more message receivers. Internet become another choice
that we should not refuse. To receive a message or a card
or warm feeling from closed people or from unknown people
living in different environments can help reduce the gap
and create more understanding to each other.
5) Key Strategy Elements:
i. Mobilizing Citizen Support:
Resource gaining from the Child & Shared Card included:
1. In cash and in kind
There are two kinds of cards: one for campaign on children
problems and another one is for fund-raising. The cards
for campaign on children problems will cover all the
problems happened in family, schools, community and
society. The receivers of the cards would absorb the
concept and push for better policy for children such as on
media and children, child labor, sex, violence, human
trafficking, aids and child abuses. The fund-raising cards
will be produced in the form of e-cards to draw attention
and mobilize resources quickly. They can also be designed
in the form of card books or postcards to be sold cheaply
to generate some income supporting children. The design of
the cards should be creative and interesting containing
easy and useful messages. The cards should contain value
added both physically and spiritually. Don t forget
another thing: in order to make the receivers understand
the problems and situation, the message should be sent to
them regularly. The foundation has to forward them
relevant update information to encourage to support either
in cash or in kind or even some recommendations and ideas.
2. New volunteers and network New volunteers are coming
from the target participants
creating cards, both children with opportunity and
underprivileged children as well as adults with various
roles and status such as family members, policy makers and
general publics. Those new volunteers or members have
passed the activity process on rehabilitation properly.
The direct output is that the target groups could really
express as they want to and communicate with other
children. The expression through cards is very useful when
it was sent to the member of their family, to individuals
who need encouragement or self-esteem and a chance for a
better. It is also useful for adults in the society to
know ideas and needs of children and adults and it will
lead to solutions. The registration of participants, name
list of chain card and e-cards will be done by the
foundation. Those included children who will be adults
taking care of society so they can absorb good ideas in
supporting children. The adults who have potential to
donation and who are closed to children can support and
assist children. Those child and adult volunteers can also
help take care of children in community and report the
vulnerable cases to the foundation or assist children
according to their capacity.
v. Developing Information and Spreading the Message:
1. Information distribution through internet. The designed
cards, both e-cards for campaign or for fund-raising will
be accessed by website visitors and e-mail users. Thus,
the new member registration can be a pool for regular
information dissemination in the future. They will become
individuals who understand and realize the importance of
children and participate actively in resource mobilization.
2. Printed cards in form of creative and interesting card
books, post cards and cards for special occasion
concerning children. Each printing can be promoted through
book stores, gas station, or campaigns with cooperation of
companies or funding agencies. Fundraising and promotion
can be done also through various fairs.
3. Direct promotion by organizing comprehensive
activities with the target groups both children and
adults. The information will be clear and can be
transferred and apply to solve the problems properly.
6) Increasing Self-sufficiency and Social Impact:
The stability of the Foundation came from the information
stemmed from the project and the continuity in information
sharing concerning children. Thus, the foundation would
receive support and resources to assist target children.
Those resources can be in kind and in cash as well as
recommendations and ideas on how to work to push at policy
level. The card designers also benefit from the project.
The card receivers and general public would understand the
concept, methods and information on child care and support
correctly. The initial impact is that the target
participants can be rehabilitated and can express
themselves to others who are family members, or people at
school, community or policy makers. Moreover, the card
receivers would understand the feeling of the senders and
learn to adapt themselves and communicate to strengthen
the relationship family, community, network and social
security. The care and supporting children is not the duty
of the only individual or group, but it should be the
cooperation of network at grass-root levels, meaning
children, family, community, donors, mass media, non-
government, and Government agencies who wish to contribute
all the best for the society.
8) Organization Mission and Vision:
The Foundation for Child Development(FCD) is committed to
ensuring the present and future well being of children,
and works closely with other NGOs, government agencies,
community leaders, parents, and most importantly, children
themselves. FCD programs and activities aim to build local
capacity, and stress partnership, empowerment and
sustainability.

widely established, the connection through cards can be
linked to care and support in society both with children,
family members, community, non-government, and Government
agencies. Cards can be a media for better communication
and make the public understand better the problems and
solve them properly with participation of everyone. Cards
can be also a method for fund-raising both in kind and in
cash and can be a practical model on children work.
