3) Strategy Summary:
Inside the employed strategy the participation of the
educational community of the place is considered, the
educational authority, the city hall and the private
enterprises. Normally social projects require financing
originated from international cooperation to achieve its
execution. The originality of this project lies exactly in
the strategy that has been designed so that the
sustainability of the project depends, mainly, on the
participants own resources. Not only financially, but the
participants are also committed to participate in the
execution and evaluation of the project during the
intervention time limit and also, subsequently, through an
Interinstitutional Civic Committee which guarantees
sustainability
4) How the Strategy Works:
Step 1: Coordination and diagnosis
Before initiating any activity, coordination meetings have
been held with the local, educational authorities and
inhabitants of the area, in order to make the proposal
known. A diagnosis has been carried out to see what the
situation of the area is. Agreements among the
institutions involved have been signed inside these
previous coordinations to reassure their support.
Step 2: Educational Training
The mastery of an adequate pedagogical methodology
guarantees the students learning and with it, the
improvement of necessary capacities for their profitable
incorporation in the working world and the sustainable
development of the district.
Step 3: Students that handle the Yachay Wasi Method and
its instruments
The efficient learning of the natural sciences using the
Yachay Wasi method and its tools, develops the capacities
of the students on the field of science and the technology
and it empowers them with the skills to apply them to
other disciplines.
Step 4: Community of the district of Asia with
environmental conscience
Population empowered with an adequate environmental
awareness with cognitive and emotional capacities.
Undoubtedly they will adequatelly behave towards
environment and its sustainability.
Step 5: Healthy teachers and students
The empowerment of knowledge and capacities as well as the
access to the existing health programs enable teachers and
students healthy lifestyles and the self / mutual care of
their health.
Step 6: Teachers and students produce and understand
texts
The basic abilities of reading and understanding texts
promote the possibility of learning more and better, thus,
improve their socialization skills.
Step 7: Children and girls of kinder and primary level
with early stimulation Kinder and primary school children
develop their capacities and potentialities in the ideal
phase for such end, in function to the early stimulation
and the cognitive variability.
Step 8: Interinstitutional Civic Committee
It's a local Agency which purpose is to guarantee
educational quality for the Sustainable Development. This
agency is borne by civic participation, local financial
contributions, political will and technical support.
The model is repeatable following in other districts the
same calling and consolidating alliances among the civil
company strategy, the State and the business. Moreover,
the will to retort the model exists in the Consortium that
has been formed.
5) Key Strategy Elements:
i. Mobilizing Citizen Support:
Yachay Wasi has achieved commitments as well as verbal and
written compromises from different social actors of the
Asia community (local authorities, private enterprise,
rural community, APAFAs, teachers, principals, among
others). The purpose of the project is to promote and to
consolidate sustainable strategic alliances for concrete
actions in favor of the educational quality in Asia.
ii. Generating Financial and Nonfinancial Resources:
The Local city Hall of Asia assumes the commitment to
support economically the project. APRILS is a non-
profitable civil association that groups twenty-four beach
clubs of the Asia district (1,800 associates). They have
institutionally assumed the economic commitment to yearly
contribute to the project. ATOCONGO Association, AMANCO
del Peru (national private enterprises), have assumed
social responsibility and contribute financially to the
project. The AVINA Foundation contributes from the
international cooperation lending a basic economic support
to the initiative. Among all them, the educational
authority and the IIP Yachay Wasi a Consortium Agreement
has been signed. This guarantees their contribution them
for a minimum three years.
iii. Establishing Relationships with Strategic Partnerships:
Since the year 2003 the coordinated work with the
Provincial city Hall of ASIA, the real estate Owners
Association of the South Seaboard (APRILS) and the Ca ete
UGEL has resulted in the initiation of the project
activities in 2004. The will of the of school principals
and of the family parents associations is remarkable, as
well as the great expectation created in the population
regarding an improvement in the educational quality. The
cut evaluation reports significant achievements.
v. Developing Information and Spreading the Message:
The activities of the project are diffused through the
magazines of the area. The magazine of the Local city Hall
of Asia, refers to the activities that are being
developed. The magazines published and they diffused in
the beaches of Asia also collect interviews and reviews of
the activities executed in the project. Recently, a story
mentioning the work that is being carried out in favor of
the population has appeared in the oldest newspaper of the
country, El Comercio
The vast majority of the program participation has been
built mainly through word of mouth and direct
communication.
6) Increasing Self-sufficiency and Social Impact:
The participation of the teachers and inhabitants of the
place greatly reduces the costs of execution and
constitutes a non-financial resource that is used inside
other projects that the institution executes as well.
Being this type of participation basically promoted
through the making, it allows the institution to have the
characteristic of self-sufficiency and it also magnifies
the social impact. The formation of a strategic alliance
among local authorities, private enterprises and the
technical entity (Yachay Wasi), constitutes an
orchestrated working model. Inside this model the parts
contribute according to its capacities. The local
authorities according to its promoting function for the
development of the locality. The socially committed
private enterprises respond according to their economical
capacity. The technical entity with its know how, is the
one that lends its knowledge and experience in activities
that mainly impact in the development of community.
8) Organization Mission and Vision:
Yachay Wasi is an interdisciplinary civic group, a leader
in the production of innovative educational material and
technology that strives to promote quality education both
in Peru as well as in the entire Andean Region.
