Social Entrepreneurship as a Larger Component of Fundraising for Social Work

Country: India

Organization: Dream Foundation Cancer Care

3) Strategy Summary:
KMA Conglomerate is founded to function as a self finance generating endeavour for the benefit of Dream Foundation Cancer Care which is a knowledge-based charitable, non- profit Trust established in the year 1986 by Mr. K .M. Aarif, who with his vision and foresight forayed into the initiative of internal generation of funds for helping more than 1000 cancer patients registered with them. Thus KMAC was established, as a one-stop-shop for catering to the business and professional segment. This initiative will act as a profit center for the NGO and will add to the kitty of the foundation.

4) How the Strategy Works:
Income derived from KMAC enterprise will be 100% channelised to make Dream Foundation Cancer Care not only self sufficient but the growth graph can be steadily maintained as the need for funds grow.

How it can be replicated by other organisations:

Every NGO must be earmarking some funds as corpus. Some donors give small / large sum of donations speifically as corpus funds.

These funds have to be invested in approved Banks and investment avenus.

Thus an NGO can approach these Banks for overdraft facilities which normally is about 85% of the fixed deposits at 1% differential rate of interest on sums withdrawn as and when required.

We can utilise this overdraft for investment in a low risk enterprise of purchase of land or any area where you can start an activity which will give you a steady income. The work force of this enterprise should be the recipients of your help.

You can there open up employment avenues as well.

Details steps of implementation of this scheme.

  1. Interest on your fixed deposit continues to sustain your activity.
  2. Low rate of interest on decreasing balance of loan and repayment of capital raised through overdraft can be made over a period of time from the income of the enterprise.
  3. Once loan is repaid, 100% income fron such an established enterprise can become a internal source of revenue generation.

5) Key Strategy Elements:

ii. Generating Financial and Nonfinancial Resources:
As per details mentioned in clause 4.

iii. Establishing Relationships with Strategic Partnerships:

  • Media to generate awareness and credibility.
  • Corporate house for corpus donations.
  • Government - to avail of various facilitities and availability of funds earmarked for the objects of your NGO.

    iv. Engaging and Managing Volunteers:
Volunteer, interms and probono support is very essential as they are very important human resource which will be very dedicated and sincere.

    v. Developing Information and Spreading the Message:
Editiorial support from the print, electronic and radio media. Information Technology is now a very important tool of communication, like websites, emails, linkages with other national & international websites

    6) Increasing Self-sufficiency and Social Impact:
All the steps mentioned in (4) & (5) have already been implemented by us. Results can be gauged by positive consequences already being achieved. On the one side number of cancer patients keeps increasing by the day. They feel very confident that they will be welcomed & attended to with care and dignity. On the other side we are achieving the desired result of receving funds from faceless individuals, organisations on merits and without necessarily reaching out to them individually.

    8) Organization Mission and Vision:
Corporate Vision. Quality Policy: Policy Achieving 1. Continual Improvement in financial aid, guidance, emotional support and counselling quality to achieve patient's satisfaction. 2. Empowerment of cancer affected families and to provide proactive schemes for their children's education.

Looking Forward to the Next Three Years:
We foresee 100% success in the multipronged strategy which is very safe and very dynamic because it is based on professional planning taking into account all major pitfalls
