3) Strategy Summary:
The present Project foresees the implementation of the National Secretariat of Fundraising of GTA Network to make feasible strategic actions which promote the sustainability of the Group. The structure of the Secretariat will be headquartered in the National Office in Brasilia, from where the actions of fundraising will be coordinated.The GTA Network is a non-governmental organization that houses 530 entities of rubber tappers, fishermen, indigenous communities, environmentalists, nut gatherers, Baba u coconut breakers etc. What makes the project original is its replicability to those populations. The idea is having the Secretariat to promote the fundraising training at the 18 local coordinating offices of the GTA network.

4) How the Strategy Works:

  • Step one: A specialized fundraising consultancy was contracted to do a diagnostic paper about the current fundraising situation of the GTA Network. The papers showed the necessity to create the National Secretariat of Fundraising to take care of the issue.

  • Step two: The National Secretariat was created in the GTA Network s main Office. An assistant was hired after a due selection process which considered a background experience in the areas of Fundraising, Fluency in English and good communication ability.

  • Step three: The structure still in process, foresees: an elaboration of institutional materials folders, visiting cards, envelopes; the construction of a data-base with a list of potential investors; the purchase of equipments computer, fax machine and the elaboration of a basic fundraising manual, which will be used in the training of group co-ordinators.

  • Step four: A schedule with the main fundraising courses and lectures will be prepared, so that the coordinator can participate and will always be well informed.

  • Step five: It will be necessary to divulge the advances on fundraising among the regional office partners and beneficiaries. For this reason, a report on the fundraising results will be sent to them.

  • Step six: The following actions will be made for the preparation of the website institution-area relationship:
    • To plan with the GTA team and the web-site designer to design a suitable design for the website institution-area relationship (texts and images).
    • To adapt the content to the website form;
    • To translate and make available the summary of the content in English and Spanish.
    • To divulge the new institutional rea to the network.
    • To update the content.

  • Step 7: The fundraising manual will be elaborated, to include the rules for choosing and dealing with potential investors. The manual will contain ethical principles for the fundraising practice.

    A data-base will be available in the GTA web-site. It will help the regional office representatives to be informed about the interest areas of the investors and the amount each one can spend, as well as the period for the selection of projects.

    5) Key Strategy Elements:

    iii. Establishing Relationships with Strategic Partnerships:
    To create an Advisory Body with representatives from various areas. The advisors will help to find new partners to cover the expenditure of the National Secretariat. When they are selected they will receive a letter inviting them to be part of the Advisory Body. They will also be briefed on the activities of the GTA an the details of the project of the Secretariat (detailed budget, a twelve-month cronogram and the sort of benefits offered to the partners).

    Advisors will be chosen from:

    - Business men (owners of companies, executives who work in the environmental area)
    Scientists (from Universities and Institutes)
    Financial agencies, NGOs
    Ministries and Development Agencies
    Judiciary (prosecuters, attorneys)
    International organization

    6) Increasing Self-sufficiency and Social Impact:
    The Secretariat will concentrate its efforts on defraying its proper expenditures in 2005 and guarantee the maintenance of its fixed structure in the GTA Network in the subsequent years. For this prupose, projects will be presented to financiers from organizations in the Third Sector, the public and private sectors, and to international organizations.

    8) Organization Mission and Vision:
    Mission: To promote the effective defense of the Amazonian forest, its biodiversity and its populations.Vision:To accomplish the union and the participation of all local communities of Amazon in the decisions on public and privateplans that intervene with the social and environmental aspects
